Examining "The Rise and Triumph of the Modern Self"

Over the past few weeks, I've been busy over at my Substack Logia. I've been delving into the thinking of Carl R. Trueman as it relates to his new book The Rise and Triumph of the Modern Self: Cultural Amnesia, Expressive Individualism and the Road to Sexual Revolution. I initially wanted to do a simple review of the book, but after having read it I came to see that explaining why the book is not a good resource require me to lay down some necessary ground work.

So far, I have only published two articles. The third is coming out on April 18. If you're interested, check out the articles below, and subscribe to Logia. The first article looks at Trueman's ambiguous use of the word modern. The second article gets into some reasons as to why Trueman's use of the word modern is ambiguous. The third will look at Trueman's understanding of the self, examining its philosophical context.

1. The "Modern" or "Modernist" Self?

2. A False Equation
